01/07/12 – BBVA Compass Bowl

Coverage of the 2011-12 college football bowl season by Envision Sports Media drew to a close this Saturday as contributing photographers Andy Mitchell and Frank Mattia traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to be along the sidelines at Legion Field for match up between Southern Methodist University and the University of Pittsburgh in the 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl.

The Mustangs surprised many of the 29,726 in attendance for one of the final post-season contests of the new year, using a convincing blend of defense – including seven sacks of Pitt’s quarterback – and a  high-octane offense to defeat the Panthers 28-6 and hand a Conference USA team its first win in three attempts at the BBVA Compass Bowl.

Here, Andy and Frank both provide Envision Sports Media viewers a collection of images each captured during the course of SMU’s win.  As always, all materials included within this post remain the sole property of Andy Mitchell, Frank Mattia and Envision Sports Media and may not be reproduced an any format without the explicit permission of all three parties.  Such inquiries can be made by email Jason Roberts directly at jason@envisionsportsmedia.com.

01/05/12 – 2012 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game

Hard as it is to believe, Envision Sports has been covering the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game almost since its inception.

It was there when Matt Barkley lit up the skies over the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Isaiah Crowell proved he really could be the savior at tailback for the University of Georgia, Florida’s Jeff Driskel and Ohio State’s Braxton Miller battled it out for the title of nation’s top dual-threat high school quarterback and Clemson’s Sammy Watkins led ESPN analyst Jamie Newberg to declare the wideout “just might be the best WR” he saw in the Class of 2011.

Little surprise then that the tandem of Jason Roberts and Katie Carlson were once again along the sidelines for this year’s edition of the Under Armour All-America High School Football Game, played for a third year on the Astroturf of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball diamond at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Here, Jason provides Envision Sports Media visitors a collection of images from Thursday evening’s contest, which found the White Team – Team Highlight – manhandle the Black Team – Team Blur – by a score of 49-16.

12/31/11 – 2011 Chick Fil A Bowl Game

Bowl games in the state of Florida weren’t the kindest to us this post-season (first time in our three-year existence we’ve been shut out), but Envision Sports Media still made positive inroads in late December, with Frank and Robyn Mattia and Brian Church not only onsite for the 2011 Music City Bowl on December 30, but Frank and contributor Andy Mitchell also making this year the first ESM has ever been allowed on the sidelines for the annual Chick Fil A Bowl on New Year’s Eve in Atlanta, Georgia.

Celebrating this special accomplishment, Andy provides ESM readers with a collection of images highlighting all the action from this year’s game, a contest which pitted Auburn University against up-and-coming ACC powerhouse, the University of Virginia.

Despite being shorthanded at both quarterback and running back – the Tigers did not play Clint Moseley (ankle injury) or Michael Dyer (suspension) – Auburn nevertheless purred on the offensive side of the ball, defeating the Cavaliers by a score of 43-24.

12/30/11 – 2011 Franklin American Music City Bowl Game

The second of Envision Sports Media’s post-season bowl games found Frank and Robyn Mattia in the city of Nashville, Tennessee as the 2011 Franklin American Music City Bowl hosted the Mississippi State University Bulldogs and Wake Forest University Demon Deacons in a late December clash which saw MSU emerge victorious 23-17 in no small part to a career-day running by tailback Vick Ballard.

Ballard finished the contest with 180 yards on the ground, just seven yards short of the bowl rushing yards record set by the University of Minnesota’s Marion Barber III back in 2004.

Here, Frank and Robyn offer ESM readers a selection of images highlighting all the action between the Bulldogs and Demon Deacons.

12/21/11 – University of Vermont Women’s Basketball

Every December, around Christmas time, Jason Roberts of Envision Sports Media and his wife, Elle, make an annual pilgrimage northward to the city of Milwaukee in order to spend the holidays with Elle’s extended family.

This year was no different, with Jason and Elle looking forward to cold weather, plenty of visits to local pubs, eating cod as part of a Friday fish fry and, of course, a visit to Marquette University to take in some collegiate basketball in conjunction with Elle’s father’s birthday.

December 2011 did hold a special surprise, however, this as the University of Vermont women’s basketball team requested Jason’s presence as a photographer during an afternoon game against the Golden Eagles on the 21st.

With camera in hand, Jason took to the floor at the Al McGuire Center on the campus  of Marquette, and here shares a selection of images highlighting a contest in which the Golden Eagles ultimately defeated Vermont 71-60.

12/09/11 – NCAA Division One Women’s Volleyball Sweet 16 – Kentucky Regional

A bit of luck for Envision Sports Media Friday, December 9, as contributing photographer Andy Mitchell was cleared to cover the NCAA Division One Women’s Volleyball Sweet 16 Regional in Lexington, Kentucky, and there captured the action as arguably the top four teams in this year’s tournament – UCLA, Kentucky, Penn State and Texas – all battled for the right to advance to the Elite Eight and one step closer to a berth in the 2011 National Championship Game in San Antonio, Texas.

Here, Andy provides ESM readership with images from both matches played Friday, where UCLA took on and defeated Penn State 3-0 and Texas downed host Kentucky 3-1.

12/08/11 – Home Depot College Football Awards

A special treat for Envision Sports Media this past Thursday night, as Jason Roberts carried on a tradition set into motion last year by Katie Carlson in covering the annual Home Depot College Football Awards, held once more at Atlantic Hall on the Boardwalk at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. A ceremony celebrating the biggest and brightest names in college football – this year was no different, with attendees ranging from Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and Baylor passer Robert Griffin III to running backs Trent Richardson (Alabama) and Montee Ball (Wisconsin) and receivers Ryan Broyles (Oklahoma) and Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State) – the nationally televised event, aired by ESPN each December, identifies the winners of some of the most prestigious awards related to the sport as handed out at the end of each regular season. From the Maxwell to the Bednarik, the Biletnikoff to the Ray Guy and Disney Spirit Award, the Home Depot College Football Awards very much serve as a star-studded precursor to the naming of the Heisman Trophy winner the following Saturday, carrying with it all the splendor, glamour and red carpet action one would expect of a major Hollywood production. And, of course, this December’s edition was no exception.  A tremendous thank you to Elizabeth McCullom for allowing ESM to be part of the HDCFA for a second-straight time!

Here, Jason provides a sampling of images taken both prior to and during the Home Depot College Football Awards. All items presented in this post remain the sole property of Jason Roberts and Envision Sports Media and may not be reproduced in any fashion without the explicit permission of both parties. 12/03/11 – Atlantic Coast Conference Football Championship

For the third-straight year, Envision Sports Media was blessed with the opportunity to be a part of the annual Atlantic Coast Conference football championship, which, in its second year in Charlotte, North Carolina, played host to the Clemson University Tigers and Virginia Tech Hokies.

With Jason Roberts tied up with basketball shoots in Miami, this year’s ACC Championship photography found ESM contributor Frank Mattia and his wife, Robyn, along the sidelines as the Tigers surprised the Hokies with a lopsided 38-10 win – and, in doing so, earned a bid to represent the ACC in January at the 2012 Orange Bowl in Miami.

Here, Frank offers a collection of images captured during Saturday night’s game. 12/03/11 Barry University Women’s Basketball

A busy start to the month of December found Envision Sports Media’s Jason Roberts traveling to Davie, Florida in order to photograph a double-header for Barry University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams as they took to the road to play Nova Southeastern University .

Here, Jason provides a sampling of images from the women’s game, a tightly-played  contest in which Barry’s Danielle DeBerry used a late layup to give the Buccaneers a 60-58 victory over the host Sharks.

11/14/11 – University of South Florida Bulls Women’s Basketball

Shooting conditions were hardly ideal for Jason Roberts of Envision Sports Media Tuesday night as he was asked to make a last minute trip to the main campus at the University of South Florida to photograph the Bulls’ women’s basketball team’s first home game of the 2011-12 season. But make do, Jason did, photographing in unusually dim conditions as USF routed visiting University of North Florida 76-41 within the temporary home of USF women’s basketball, the University Recreation Center.

Here, Jason provides a sampling of images captured during last night’s contest between the Bulls and the Ospreys. As always, all materials contained within remain the sole property of Jason Roberts, Envision Sports Media and the University of South Florida.
