Minor League Baseball 7/10/2011 Lakeland Tigers vs Bradenton Marauders

marauderstigers2_028 In the third game of the series the Lakeland Tigers sent Shawn Teufel to the mound to oppose Bradenton’s Brian Leach. The Tigers got to Leach early and often, shelling the right hander with seven hits and six runs in two innings. Bradenton had solid relief efforts from Jhonathon Ramos and Duke Welker who both pitched three scoreless innings. Teufel on the other hand, gave up only hits including a home run from Aaron Baker. Pittsburgh Pirates infielder, Steve Pearce, made his first rehab apperance. Pearce played six innings at third base but did not get a hit.  The Marauders struggled on offense until the ninth inning when Lakeland’s nearly automatic closer, Kenny Faulk appeared. Faulk allowed two hits and three runs in two thirds of an inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, Lakeland sent in Matt Little to finish off Bradenton. Little gave up a double to Adalberto Santos, which scored two runs (both charged to Faulk). But Little was able to close out the game getting Elevys Gonzalez to strike out to end the game with a final score of 6-5.

Minor League Baseball 7/9/2011 – Lakeland Tigers vs Bradenton Marauders Doubleheader

marauderstigers1_040 The day following Bradenton’s first rain out of the year featured a double header between the Marauders and the Lakeland Tigers. The Marauders got to work early in the first game, chasing out Tiger’s starter Jarrod Wesson after just one and 2/3 innings. Wesson gave up five hits and allowed six runs, all of them earned. Aaron Baker powered the Marauader’s offense, collection two hits, including a homer run, and driving in four runs. Brett Lorin, the Bradenton starter pitched all seven innings of the game (Florida State League double header games are completed after seven innings).  Lorin allowed only two hits, unfortunately they were both home runs. He did manage to strike out five batters and was credited for the win. Wade Gaynor took Lorin deep in the fifth and Dan Fields hit his home run in the sixth. The final score was 6-2.

Lakeland bounced back and evened the series in the second game. Drew Smyly took the mound for the Tigers, striking out four while allowing three hits and one run in four innings. Jason Erickson started the game for the Marauders. Erickson, normally used in relief, gave up three hits and three earned runs in his four innings of work. Tyler Cox, who was brought in to relieve Erickson, did not fare much better. In one inning he allowed two hits and two earned runs.  The Tiger’s Tony Plagman led the way with two hits, two walks and an RBI. Avisail Garcia’s two run homer run in the fourth gave the Tiger’s the lead, which the would not surrender. Luke Putkonen earned the win for Lakeland and Erickson took the loss. Lakeland’s closer Kenny Faulk converted the save opporunity, his 20th for the season.

marauders4th_023 The Bradenton Marauders July 3rd holiday celebration was cut short after a rainstorm. Marauders players wore special patriotic jerseys all weekend which were auctioned off after  thegame was called at the conclusion of the fifth inning. The game was also the last Bradenton rehab appearance for Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez.  Bradenton’s Brett Lorin pitched three shaky innings in which he gave up eight hits and eight runs. St. Lucie’s Kyle Allen had a dominant performance in his five innings of work, allowing only one run on three hits while striking out six. Marauder’s second baseman Jarek Cunningham provided the only fireworks for Bradenton, hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Mets’ young phenom, Wilmer Flores, had three hits, collected two RBIs and scored a run. Jason Erickson stepped in to pitch after the Marauders pulled Lorin. Erickson had a solid outing, allowing only a single hit in two innings. After an hour delay, the game was officially called and the Mets emerged victorious by a final score of 8-1.

Minor League Baseball: Clearwater Threshers v. Bradenton Marauders

cp7_034

Even the help of Major League All-Star and World Series Champion second-baseman Chase Utley couldn’t help the Clearwater Thresher beat the Bradenton Marauders Monday evening at McKechnie Field in Bradenton, Florida. The Threshers had an early lead, putting up one run in the first. The Marauders tied it up in the sixth inning then took the lead following Evan Chambers two run home run to left field. Bradenton’s Phillip Irwin (2-0) threw six strong innings, giving up four hits and run while striking out four. Clearwater’s Jonathan Pettibone (3-3), who took the loss, allowed eight hits and three run in his six innings of work. It is unknown how long Utley will stay with Clearwater rehabbing his injury. Tonight was only the second time this season he has participated in a full nine inning baseball game; he went 1-4 with an RBI and a strike out. The Marauders have one more game with Threshers Tuesday night in Bradenton to wrap up their four game series.

2011 Minor League Baseball Charlotte Stone Crabs v. Bradenton Marauders

4-8marauderscrab_018

After suffering a tough loss at the hands of the Stone Crabs the previous night, the Bradenton Marauders started out the 2011 season at McKechnie Field in Bradenton, Florida with a bang. Charlotte’s dangerous righty Alexander Colome took the mound for the Stone Crabs. Colome started the first inning well, retiring the first two batters before issuing a walk to Evan Chambers. The next batter, Chris Snyder, the Pittsburgh Pirates catcher on rehab assignment started the fire works early, blasting a two run homer over the left field fence.

In the second inning, the Marauders picked Colome apart, tacking on five more runs and sending a total of 11 hitters to bat in the inning. Colome was replaced by Shane Minks who was able to close out the inning.

The Marauders added an additional 6 runs in the fifth inning once Minks was replaced by Frank De Los Santos. De Los Santos have up six hits and a walk in his one inning of work.

The Marauders pitching was solid all evening as they were able to preserve the 13-0 shut out win. Rehabbing Pirates pitcher Joe Beimel threw one perfect inning before being replaced by Matt McSwain. McSwain surrendered only 3 hits in his five scoreless innings. Jeffery Inman gave up two hits in his two innings and struck out one. Gabriel Alvarado closed out the game with two strikeouts to give the Marauders a win in their 2011 home debut.

McSwain earned his first win of the season while Colome took the loss. The Marauders and Stone Crabs continue their rivalry Saturday in Charlotte.

2010 Jupiter Hammerheads vs Bradenton Marauders (Breast Cancer Awareness Night)

pinkjersey_11 Saturday night the Marauders hosted their first annual Breast Cancer Awareness night at McKechnie Field. Players wore special pink jerseys which were auctioned off during the game with the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Association. Aaron Pribanic started the game for the hot-hitting Marauders, who had amassed over thirty hits in their past two games. Opposing, Pribanic was Jupiter’s Johnny Dorn. The Marauders scored first, when Quincy Latimore doubled in Starling Marte. Jupiter took the lead in the top of the third by scoring two runs. Daniel Pertusati sent a single into right, bringing in Emilio Ontiveros who had reached base on a double. Javier Guzman scored the second run of the inning on a fielder’s choice from Paul Gran. Jupiter’s lead did not last long, as Quincy Latimore tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run, his 15th of the year.

The benches cleared for the first time in Marauder’s history in the seventh inning.  Adam Davis slid hard into second base to break up a potential double play. Jupiter’s Ontiveros had a few words for Davis as he got to his feet. Slight pushing occurred, which sent both teams streaming on to the field, clearing out both dugouts and bull pens. The managers and umpires settled the players down and play continued with out ejections.

Unfortunately, Bradenton lost their momentum and gave up four runs in the eighth inning. Daniel Pertusati led off with a home run. Paul Gran reached base on a throwing error from Shelby Ford. Ben Lasater moved Gran to third after hitting a ground rule double. Jacob Smolinski singled to center, driving in Gran and moving Lasater to third. Smolinski stole second. Thomas Hickman hit a sacrifice fly to right, which enabled Lasater to score and Smolinski to advance to third. Bradenton pitcher Yerfi Tavaras hit Miguel Fermin with a pitch, sending him to first. Ernesto Manzanillo hit a sacrifice fly to left, which allowed Smolinski to score. Bradenton finally got out of the inning after Jupiter batted around the line up and Pertusati lined out to Adam Davis.

The Marauders made a valiant effort to come back in the bottom of the ninth. Eric Fryer led off with a single, and Calvin reached base after being hit by Corey Madden with a pitch. James Skelton struck out and Adam Davis popped out, forcing the Marauders into a two out situation, down four runs. Madden loaded the bases by walking Jordan Newton. Shelby Ford singled to left, scoring Fryer and advancing the runners. With the bases loaded, Bradenton manager, PJ Forbes, sent Jeremy Farrell to pinch hit for Austin McClune. With Farrell, the potential winning run, at the plate, Madden threw a low pitch which passed by catcher Miguel Fermin. Calvin Anderson scored, and all other runner advanced on the play. Farrell connected with the next pitch sending it out in the direction of left field, approximately ten feet shy of the fences. The Marauders were defeated by a final score of 6-4.

2010 Jupiter Hammerheads vs Bradenton Marauders – Game 1

hammerheads1_01_02 The Marauders put on a hitting clinic on Thursday night in front of a crowd of 700 at McKechnie Field in Bradenton, Florida. The starter for the Jupiter Hammerheads, Joseph O’Gara, was chased out after throwing 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and six earned runs. Conversely, Bradenton’s starter Nathan Adcock, pitched an absolute gem, allowing only three hits over six innings while striking out six. Each Marauder in the starting line up recorded at least one hit. The team combined for a franchise record 24 hits on the evening, shutting out the Hammerheads by a final score of 14-0. Oddly enough, the game saw no home runs from either team. Bradenton’s Quincy Latimore and Starling Marte stole the show, each recording three hits and driving in four runs.

2010 FSL Baseball – Brevard County Manatees & Bradenton Marauders (08-06-10)

080610-fsl-manatees-marauders-71 For the seventh time this season, the Bradenton Marauders’ pitching staff prevented an opposing team from posting a single run in a contest, this time Friday night as Samuel McSwain, Tyler Cox, Diego Moreno and Noah Krol held the visiting Brevard County Manatees scoreless through nine and  lifted Bradenton to a 2-0 victory in front of just over 500 at McKechnie Field.  McSwain and Cox accounted for the majority of production from the mound for Bradenton in the win, with the pair combining for seven innings pitched and the whole of Brevard’s six hits on the night while also striking out six and walking one.  Brevard early on looked as if it might back McSwain into a corner from which he couldn’t recover, placing runners on second and third in innings two and three, respectively;  McSwain, however, battled back, closing out both before going three-up / three-down in the fourth and fifth innings.  Cox took over for McSwain starting in the sixth and proceeded to make short work of Manatees’ hitters through the next two innings, with only right fielder Scott Krieger landing on base on a single to left field in the seventh.   Moreno, who would relieve Cox to open the eighth, then shut down Brevard designated hitter Peter False, second baseman Matt Cline and center fielder Eric Komatsu before yielding pitching duties to ever-reliable closer Noah Krol in the ninth.  Krol, in typical fashion, frustrated opposing batters, walking Manatees third baseman Sergio Miranda, but striking out first baseman Sean Halton and forcing a ground and fly out by left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard and catcher Sean McCraw to seal the win for the Marauders.  Such stellar play from the mound earned Cox his sixth win of the season (6-1) and Krol an outstanding 27th save for the year.  Bradenton hitters meanwhile found the going tough facing off against Brevard starting pitcher Danl Merklinger, with six batters striking out over the span of Merklinger’s six innings on the night.   Bradenton produced just enough in the game’s sixth inning – two runs on a beautiful homerun by Marauders left fielder Quincy Latimore that also scored center fielder Sterling Marte from first –, however, to give Bradenton a 2-0 lead, and, ultimately, a second-straight win at home over the Manatees.  Bradenton now leads the four-game home series against the Manatees 2-1 and will try to extend that record to 3-1 Saturday night before preparing for an important series on the road against the second-place FSL South Division Palm Beach Cardinals beginning Monday.

2010 FSL Baseball – Brevard County Manatees & Bradenton Marauders (8-05-10)

080510-fsl-manatees-marauders-71 The winds of fortune blew in an opposite direction for the Bradenton Marauders Thursday night at McKechnie Field, as not only did the weather cooperate after a significant rain delay of Wednesday evening’s game, but the home team also notched a 6-3 win over the visiting Brevard County Manatees after losing 5-4 the previous night.  Thursday’s contest remained knotted at 0-0 early, but turned in favor of the Marauders beginning in the bottom of the fourth, as third baseman Adam Davis, second baseman James Skelton and designated hitter Jordan Newton all reached home to make the score 3-0 in favor of Bradenton.  Brevard County countered starting in the fifth, scoring a single run not only in that batting cycle, but also in the sixth and seventh innings to once more tie the game at 3-3.  Bradenton center fielder Starling Marte put the Marauders up by one in the bottom of the seventh,  scoring from third on a single driven to short by left fielder Quincy Latimore.  Newton and short stop Shelby Ford then provided additional cushion for the Marauders in the eighth, this as both plated on a double to right by right fielder Robbie Grossman off Manatees reliever Ruben Flores.  The two runs  by Newton and Ford proved more than enough to ensure Bradenton the win Thursday, but that didn’t stop the Marauders coaching staff  from sending lights-out closer Noah Krol on the mound to seal the deal.  Krol made short work of Brevard’s final three batters, walking first baseman Sean Halton to open up the top of the ninth, but then netting three-straight outs on a fly ball to left by Manatees catcher Shawn Zaraga and a ground out by left fielder Bjorn Kjeldgaard that was ultimately turned into a double-play.  With the win, Krol earned his twenty-sixth win of the season, while Bradenton reliever Tim Alderson celebrated his first win with the Marauders after five innings pitched, six hits and three runs surrendered.  Manatees thrower Trey Watten was awarded the loss after 3.1 innings, four hits and one run allowed in relief of Brevard starter,  Richard Seidel (3.2 innings, four hits, three runs, four strikeouts).  Center fielder Starling Marte finished Bradenton’s top hitter in the victory, going three-of-four at-bat and scoring one run, while Newton ended up a close second, striking two-of-four for one RBI and reach home twice on the evening.  Meanwhile, Erik Komatsu provided the hottest bat for Brevard County in Thursday’s loss, netting two-of-four at bat with one RBI and one run scored on a home run to right field in the top of the sixth.

Bradenton now evens up a four-game home series against the Manatees at 1-1, and looks to further pad its lead atop the FSL South Division Friday evening in Game Three, with a starting time of 7:00 p.m.

2010 FSL Baseball – Lakeland Flying Tigers & Bradenton Marauders

072710-fsl-flying-tigers-marauders-44 A strong outing from starting pitcher Aaron Pribanic allowed the Bradenton Marauders to down the visiting Lakeland Flying Tigers 3-1 Tuesday evening at McKechnie Field.  Pribanic allowed an early run that put Lakeland up 1-0, but finished seven innings of work  only giving up the single score on five hits while striking out five before yielding the ball to reliever Diego Moreno, who earned his fourth win of the season after walking one and striking out one in the eighth.  Lakeland hitters heated up  in the second, with catcher Bryan Holaday and designated hitter John Murrian each reaching base on a double and single, respectively, but went three-up / three-down in innings three, four and five before reaching base once again in the top of the sixth on a walk by right fielder Matthew Mansila.  Mansila would make it as far as third base in that inning, hustling past second on a ground ball struck by shortstop Gustavo Nunez, but was left stranded by the inspired defensive play of Bradenton, who from that point forward allowed just three additional runners on base.  The Marauders, meanwhile, struggled to get anything going in the first two-thirds of Tuesday night’s contest, but burst forth offensively in the seventh, as third baseman Adam Davis reached home on a single by designated hitter Jordan Newton.  Right fielder Robbie Grossman aided Bradenton’s cause in the eighth, homering on a fly ball to left to give the Marauders the lead for the first time, and set the stage for left fielder Quincy Latimore to score an additional run on a sacrifice double play laid down by catcher James Skelton.  Now up 3-1, the Marauders turned to Moreno and the ever-impressive Noah Krol to tie up the win for Bradenton, the team’s second-straight since losing back-to-back games in a double-header played against Dunedin July 24.  With the victory, the Marauders move to 17-13  for the second half of  the FSL regular season, and improve to 11-5 in games played at home.  In a losing effort, Lakeland reliever Jay Voss earned his second blown save for 2010, surrendering two runs on two hits in one inning pitched, and this after starting pitcher Mark Sorenson gave up one run and five hits in 6.1 innings pitched while striking out seven.  The Flying Tigers return home  to Joker Marchant Stadium Tuesday night, where they’ll look to even things up in the first of three games hosting the Marauders.
