2010 IMG Academies / Madden Football Camp

2010-img-madden-football-day-one-240 Temperatures soared near 100 degrees this weekend, but the heat and humidity of Southwest Florida still wasn’t enough to prevent over 100 youth football players of all ages and from all across the United States from converging on the campus of IMG Academies in Bradenton for the inaugural John Madden Football Camp.  Headed up by camp director, former Florida State University and Carolina Panthers quarterback, Chris Weinke, and featuring a list of instructors that included the likes of former Southern California / Los Angeles Rams head coach John Robinson, former University of Oregon quarterback / head coach of San Jose State and Rutgers University / quarterbacks coach for the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins Terry Shea, and former University of Miami / Carolina Panthers linebacker Dan Morgan, the 2010 Madden camp mixed classroom instruction with on-field individual drills and seven-on-seven competitions to provide attendees the unique experience to learn from some of the best to ever to play the game.  Schedules were regimented and workouts were physically and mentally demanding, but a full three-days of training ultimately transformed individual players in distinctive ways, bringing to the spotlight talents previously unknown or unrefined.  Camp rounded up Sunday with recognition of the Madden Football Camp’s first-ever all-star squad (names listed below), a grouping of eight outstanding talents playing on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, yet closed with a group huddle in which the collective whole of the camp’s attendees were celebrated for all they’d learned as both individuals and accomplished as a unit.

Those named to the 2010 Madden Camp All-Star list are as follows:

Camp MVP – Running Back Mitchell Hester (Jacksonville, FL/Duncan Fletcher HS/Class of 2011)

Offensive MVP – Quarterback Matt Floyd (Milton, FL/Milton HS/Class of 2011) / Wide Receiver Ricky Jones (Sarasota, FL/Booker HS/Class of 2012)

Defensive MVP – Cornerback Brian Poole (Bradenton, FL/Southeast HS/Class of 2012)

Offensive Big Man – Offensive Lineman Wendel Williamson (Bradenton, FL/Bayshore HS/Class of 2011)

Defensive Big Man – Defensive End Dante Fowler, Jr. (St. Petersburg, FL/Lakewood HS/Class of 2012)

Breakout Skill Athlete – Wide Receiver James Owualnu (St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall/Class of 2013)

Breakout Lineman – Offensive Lineman Corey Martinez (Tampa, FL/Tampa Catholic/Class of 2014)
